Our First (half)Year
Our Founding Families
We’re looking for freedom loving & growth minded founding families who…
…are excited to send their children to a school that still practices ancient ways of raising children, wants to work as a team at the school & in their homes, and are thrilled to break education’s current mold so their children can have a brighter future!
If this sounds like your family…
…Then your children will
Help set the tone for workshop meetings
Become leaders in agile project management and conflict resolution
Enjoy extra field trips during the first year (We’re already looking into a trip to Universal!)
Help set the schedule for work and play based off of what the children need
Will get to choose the type of science experiments run for the first year
And most importantly, will set the standard for their rite of passage into adulthood that future generations will all admire!
Four days per week hybrid micro school.
Since hybrid micro schools are not full time schools, your child will need to be a registered homeschooler either with the county, an umbrella school, or Step Up for Students.
Your children will be following our curriculum for their homeschooling and we’ll base your child’s learning on their and your family’s goals.
What will the first year’s location look like?
As of right now, we’re approved to run this micro school out of a private residence. The residence is located off of McCulloch RD (the dividing line between Oviedo and East Orlando) and within walking distance to the Econ River Wilderness area.
We’re still looking for a location that has big, open spaces and the ability to create space for small group work. Ideally the location will also have lots of outdoor space so everyone gets at least 10 minutes of outdoor time for every hour they’re working.
As we expand, our goal is to build different buildings for our workshops on acreage so there’s plenty of space for everyone to play during brain breaks.
The first 6 weeks of school
*
The first 6 weeks of school *
Our first 6 weeks we’ll focus on team building, interpersonal skills, and how to give and take criticism constructively.
Our first two weeks will look like core work in the morning, lunch, team building, and a life skill.
The next four weeks will look like our regular schedule with some extra breaks in there for team building and taking certain skills at a slower pace depending on what the workshop needs.
It will end with our first mini quest presentations and a couple days off!
Can parents volunteer?
Yes! That absolutely aligns with our culture!
As we accept new families, we’ll be asking for parents’ strengths so they can help with things they love. And we’ll need parent volunteer drivers for field trips!
Can new families come in during the year?
Yes! We welcome new families and learners!
We’ll have two times during our first half year where new families can come in for a week long trial. During the trial, the new learner will have a buddy who will help him or her with the schedule and be there for any small questions through the day (like if they forgot where the bathroom is). Our goal will be to see if new learners are ready to contribute to our learning environment, or if they need more time to become team players. If it seems like a good fit, then we’ll accept them and keep growing!
